     The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a grant providing students with the opportunity to earn additional money, while working on or off campus.  In addition to the money earned from FWS, students gain valuable experience, in most cases, in the field of their choice.

How quickly the grant is expended, depends on the number of hours worked each week, and the hourly rate of pay.  How much the student earns per hour depends highly on the skills possessed by the student and the skills required.  Additionally, the FWS administrator and the department coordinator will review the student's class schedule and unmet financial need prior to the FWS assignment.

Another benefit to FWS, is that while the money earned is reported as income to the IRS, it is NOT considered as income on the FAFSA application.

In order to be considered for Federal Work Study, students must comply with the following requirements:

     1.  Complete and submit a Free Application

           for Federal Student Aid;

     2.  Complete a Financial Aid File;

     3.  Demonstrate an unmet need of at least

          $3,000; and,

     4.  Complete and submit a Work Study

           Request Form to the Financial Aid Office.
